- Freshwater Point is less than 15 minutes' drive from the
historic trading centre of Launceston, Tasmania’s
second largest city. Self guided walking tours of Launceston
present an excellent opportunity to see not only the beautiful
parks and gardens, but also the city’s historic buildings.
Macquarie House (1830), and the Old Umbrella Shop (1860’s)
are two examples.
- Freshwater Point is located in the heart of the lush Tamar
Valley and on the edge of the prestigious Tamar Valley Wine
Region. During your stay in the valley, you can sample the
fresh local delicacies including fruit, berries and dairy
foods, and visit any of the numerous wineries and cellar
doors.
- Freshwater Point offers great opportunities for those
interested in birdlife. The Tamar bird sanctuary is opposite
Freshwater Point and can be seen from the property. The
renowned Tamar Island Wetland Walk is only 10 minutes drive
from the property. Here you can explore an extensive boardwalk
through reeds, marshland and mudflats and observe birds
in their natural habitat. The walk, which ends at Tamar
Island, takes 1 - 2 hours and is a must for nature lovers.
- Cradle Mountain and wilderness walks are a comfortable
return day trip from Freshwater Point, as are the spectacular
beaches at Freycinet and
Wineglass Bay.
- Trout fishing lakes are within 30 minutes’ drive
and there is a choice of three golf courses, which are close
by.
