Freshwater Point offers great opportunities for those interested in birds of the feathered variety. The Tamar bird sanctuary is opposite Freshwater Point and can be seen from the property. The renowned Tamar Island Wetland Walk is only 10 minutes drive from the property. Here you can explore an extensive boardwalk through reeds, marshland and mudflats and observe birds in their natural habitat. The walk, which ends at Tamar Island, takes 1 - 2 hours and is a must for nature lovers.

Cradle Mountain and wilderness walks are a comfortable return day trip from Freshwater Point, as are the spectacular beaches at Freycinet and Wineglass Bay. Trout fishing lakes are within 30 minutes’ drive and there is a choice of three golf courses, which are close by.

Go to Brady's Lookout for a fabulous view down the river, almost to the coast

 

Enjoy a scenic drive to Notley Fern Gorge in Bridgenorth on your way to the spectacular Great Western Tiers

 

Visit the Grubb Shaft Gold Mining Museum at Beaconsfield

 

Explore picturesque Greens Beach, West Head & Badger Head which are all part of the Asbestos Range National Park (now called Narantawpu National Park)

 

Spend some time at the Maritime Museum and Lighthouse at Low Head. See the Fairy Penguins (at dusk) & the Pilots Station. On the way, drive down river towards the coast via Gravelly Beach, Paper Beach & Deviot (see craft, pottery & art galleries in Tamar Valley Gallery area).

 

Experience the Pipers River Vineyards: Pipers Brook, The Jansz, Dalrymple, Heemskerk, Rochecombe etc.

And the West Tamar River Vineyards: St Matthias,   Rosevears. Strathlynn, Marions and Holm Oak

 

Visit the renowned Bridestowe Lavender Farm at Nabowla. Open all year, the Lavenders are in flower December to January

 

Enjoy the Walker Rhododendron Garden at Lalla (Lilydale) as well as the Lalla Pear Walk. On the way, visit Hollybank Forest Reserve,

 

Visit Lilydale Falls & Reserve and return via Scottsdale and the Saint Patricks River

 

At Hillwood Strawberry Farm sample organic strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, honey etc.

Taste sauces, chutneys, mustards and jams at the Tasmanian Gourmet Sauce company

and specialty honey made using uniquely Tasmanian and eco-friendly production at the Tasmanian Honey Company

 

Stop at pretty Saint Matthias Church in Windemere after a pleasant drive along the river bank through Blackwall

 

Visit Penny Royal World (Launceston) and enjoy walks, views and dining at the close by Cataract Gorge  

 

At Longford, visit nearby Woolmers Estate (historic house with beautiful rose garden) and Brickendon (historic, operating farm) 

Visit Clarendon House at Nile, Entally House at Hadspen and Franklin House in outer Launceston. On the way, pass by the National Automobile Museum, Waverley Woollen Mills and historic Evandale
